Child poverty is an often overlooked and ignored issue that’s causing trauma and abuse for millions of at-risk children in the United States. Twenty percent of children in this country live in poverty who are nine times more likely to experience abuse. Poverty is a leading cause of child abuse in the United States.
First, we need to raise awareness and understanding of this hidden crisis. Then we can focus on national and local policies and strategies that mitigate child poverty and protect children from its adversities.
